Kuromi Hello Kitty Island Adventure basics: she is a mischievous island resident who rules Spooky Swamp and runs the Witch's Hut and the Haunted Mansion. She likes Spooky, Fall and Soda items, and Pumpkin Spice Soda is her 3-heart gift. Her birthday is October 31, celebrated each year with Kuromi's Birthday Celebration. Her friendship quests give you the Snorkel, potion brewing and the Haunted Mansion. Since the Welcome Home update, you can also build her a house in Spooky Swamp.
This reflects the official Hello Kitty Island Adventure Wiki and Steam news as of October 16, 2026, after the free Welcome Home update (version 3.0). Apple Arcade usually gets new content first, so quests, dates and event features can differ by platform and version.
01
Who Kuromi is and where you meet her
Kuromi is one of the residents you can befriend from the start of the game, but you have to reach her first. After the "Power Up the Gate" quest opens the Resort Gate, My Melody gives you "Missing Friends, Missing Gifts." One of its five Welcome Gifts goes to Kuromi. To find her, follow the path north past Keroppi's lagoon in Spooky Swamp.
The wiki lists My Melody as her "rival," Keroppi and Badtz-maru as friends, and the visitor Baku as her best friend. If you own the City Town DLC, she also runs Kuromi's Boutique there, which offers custom avatar palettes. The official website's Tea Garden DLC blurb teases a story about Kuromi's secret admirer.
Her return gift is the Light Stone, which also buys her furniture. She becomes a Good Friend at level 10, a Close Friend at 15 and a Best Friend at 20, her max.
02
Kuromi's liked tags and best gifts
If you are looking for Hello Kitty Island Adventure Kuromi gifts, anything with a Spooky, Fall or Soda tag works. The best are items that match two or three of those tags. Here are the wiki's top picks for her:
| Hearts | Gift | Tags | How to make it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | Pumpkin Spice Soda | Soda, Spooky, Fall | Soda Machine: Pumpkin, Fizzy Crystal, Cinna Bloom |
| 2 | Spicy Pumpkin Latte | Cozy Beverage, Spooky, Spice, Fall | Espresso Machine: Candlenut, Cinna Bloom, Pumpkin |
| 2 | Jack-O-Lantern | Fall, Spooky, Happiness | Craft from 5 Pumpkins |
| 2 | Spooky Cake | Bakery, Spooky, Fall | Oven: Flour, Swampmallow, Pumpkin |
| 1 | Anything Spooky, Fall or Soda | varies | Pumpkins, pumpkin dishes and more |
Per the wiki, the Soda Machine upgrade comes from Pekkle's level 6 reward and the Espresso Machine upgrade from Hangyodon's level 4 reward. Before you have those, the wiki suggests Pumpkin Pie and Jack-O-Lantern as early gifts, since Spooky Swamp gives you a steady supply of Pumpkins. According to the wiki, Baku can gift you one Pumpkin Spice Soda and Berry one Jack-O-Lantern each day they visit. Gift values and other friends' favorites are on /guides/gift-guide.
03
Friendship rewards and companion abilities
Kuromi's rewards include Spooky furniture early on: a Spooky Standing Lamp at level 3, a mirror at 5, an armchair at 7, a bookcase at 9, a dining table at 11 and a Spooky Bed at 19. Level 14 adds the Pineapple Lava Soda recipe.
Her companion abilities are built around potions. Witchcraft, unlocked at level 13, makes potion effects last 50% longer while she is with you, and its level 18 upgrade raises that to 100%. Super Balloon, at level 16, makes balloons lift you up when you jump instead of only gliding down. At Best Friends, she gives Kuromi Boxes instead of loose Light Stones. The boxes still contain Light Stones, and the regular box can also contain a Kuromi Collectors Hat.
04
Kuromi's key quests
These unlock as your friendship grows. See /guides/quests for where they fit in the story.
- Delivery Service (level 1): carry a Pumpkin to My Melody and unlock Fast Travel mailboxes. You meet Cinnamoroll here.
- Re-Haunt the Spooky Swamp (level 4, after Power Up the Gate): restore the Haunted Mansion, the "Kuromi haunted house." It has 10 puzzle rooms to solve in order, and the wiki notes Kuromi can help you skip a room. Rewards include the Spooky Witch Dress and Hat, and the quest also opens the Ghost Tour Ride.
- Deep Diving (level 6): dive for Kuromi's lost locket and earn the Snorkel crafting plans (10 Rubber, 2 Spark, 2 Ingot). The Snorkel is how you reach Hangyodon.
- Potion Hunt (level 8): a five-part series, one part per daily reset. It opens the Witch's Hut and the Cauldron.
- Potion Pros (level 20): her Best Friends quest, which also needs Potion Hunt and "Open the Nature Preserve" done first. It adds Glow Powder plans, Critter, Item and Sparkle Potion recipes, and a Cauldron upgrade.
In "Lost Luggage," a Cinnamoroll quest, Kuromi's spooky box (Quest and Fall tags) sits in the northeast corner of Rainbow Reef. The "Kuromi needs prank supplies" message is her "Prank Supplies" Daily Quest: give her any item with the Joke tag. The Kuromi treasure hunt opens through My Melody's "Pirate Pearl" and "Chasing the Horizon" quests, covered below.
05
Kuromi's birthday and the 2026 celebration
The Kuromi birthday Hello Kitty Island Adventure players wait for is October 31, which is also Halloween. In most years, Kuromi's Birthday Celebration runs from October 29 to November 4 or 5, depending on the wiki page. During it, picking up Pumpkins, Glow Berries, Swampmallows or Spinips in Spooky Swamp has a chance to give you Kuromi's Decorating Kit. TOPHAT's Pickup Glitch doesn't work on the kits.
2026 is different. Steam news announced the Spooky Celebration, called "Month of Mischief" this year, from September 24 to October 31, 2026, with Kuromi taking over Hello Kitty's Cafe. The wiki says you can collect Decorating Kits for the whole of October 2026. The birthday quest "Queen of Halloween" was not available all month, though. Its quest page lists October 29 to November 5 each year, but the 2026 quest dates and the celebration's 2026 end date were not confirmed in the sources we reviewed.
In "Queen of Halloween," you hand party invitations to Hello Kitty, Badtz-maru, Cinnamoroll and Hangyodon. Then you meet Kuromi near the Haunted Mansion and change into a costume yourself. You earn a Kuromi Party Favor and the Kuromi Birthday Balloons crafting plans, and you can only do the quest once.
Kits go into these event recipes:
- Kuromi's Birthday Cake: Flour and a kit at the Oven in Hello Kitty Cafe. The first time you give it to her during the celebration, she has special birthday dialogue.
- Kuromi Soda: Fizzy Crystal and a kit at the Soda Machine. Its Soda and Spooky tags make it a 2-heart gift for her.
- Kuromi Pudding: Cactus Cream and a kit at the Dessert Machine.
- Kuromi Kloud: Candy Cloud and a kit at the Candy Cloud Machine on Cloud Island.
- More: Kuromi Cake, Churros, Tart, Cheesecake, Purple Bow Glow Berry Pie, Koffee, Pizza, Krepe, Krisps and the Kuromi Kool Potion.
During the 2026 event, the "Kuromi Quest" Daily Quest asks you to give a Kuromi Kool Potion to a named friend, which unlocks that friend's Kuromi Kool outfit. More recipes are on /guides/recipes.
06
Kuromi's furniture collection and treasure hunt
The Kuromi furniture collection has 16 pieces. The Kuromi Neon Light, Candy Jar, Wallpaper and Flooring come from "Pirate Pearl," and the Kuromi Stuffie from "Chasing the Horizon." That second quest unlocks the daily Treasure Hunt on the Spooky Swamp coast, just north of the dock.
The other 11 pieces come from the Treasure Hunt in a fixed order: Armchair, Armoire, Chair, Couch, Dining Table, Mirror, Pillow, Rug, Sleeping Bag, Standing Lamp, Table. A new rare piece becomes available every three days. You can find one treasure per day using your Crystal Sensor, or pay the Ship's Nul regional currency for a map hint. Once you have every Kuromi piece, the hunt moves on to My Melody furniture.
After you own a piece, you can buy more at Small Gift Big Smile for Light Stones. The wiki lists prices from 3 to 15 each. For decorating with these items, see /guides/furniture-tags.
07
Kuromi's house in Welcome Home
The wiki lists Kuromi among the friends who can get a Character Home in version 3.0. You receive Kuromi's Island Home construction plans at the end of Hello Kitty's "House Party" quest. You build it at the Drafting Table from three Soda items, three Fall items, three Spooky items, a Kuromi Table, a Kuromi Rug and a Kuromi Standing Lamp, so collect those Treasure Hunt pieces first.
You can place the home on any repaired Foundation in Spooky Swamp. The wiki lists three plots there, costing 10, 40 and 50 Cornerstones. Moving her in starts "Kuromi's Island Home." In that quest, Marroncream gives you a Pocket Room Doorknob and 20 Spun Lace, and Kuromi gives you Kuromi's Island Home Layout (the wiki lists layout code P5L4Y5).
Once you finish "Gifts Galore" and reach level 15 with Kuromi, "Kuromi's Mailbox" lets you build her mailbox for 3 Cornerstones. After that, you can leave gifts there. At reset, they are delivered to her if she still has gift slots left that day. More on homes and Cornerstones is on /guides/homes.
