This Hello Kitty Island Adventure beginner guide gives you the opening route in order. You land in "Happy Landings," deliver My Melody's Welcome Gifts, and gift your way to the friendship levels needed to open the Resort Gate with Chococat. Then you unlock swimming, fast travel and ziplines so My Melody can help you build your own Home, learning the Menu Tablet, the daily reset, cooking and crafting along the way.

This route reflects the Welcome Home update (version 3.0, released on all platforms on October 8, 2026) and the official wiki as of October 16, 2026. Welcome Home reworked the early game, and the wiki doesn't say how older saves handle the new order, so your quest log may differ on an older save or another platform.

01

Your first hour: Happy Landings and the opening quests

You wake up on a plane and create your character, a look you can change later at no cost. Chat with at least one passenger until the cake machine malfunctions and everyone jumps out holding Balloons. Hold jump to float down. Flying through all 4 rings on the way lets you find the Island Challenge Airplane Trophy near the landing zone, and you can retry later.

You land in Seaside Resort. Hello Kitty gives you the Map app and asks you to find My Melody, who explains gifting and likes when you hand her a Strawberry. The early chain then runs like this:

  1. Small Gift Big Smile: My Melody gives you 5 Welcome Gifts for Badtz-maru, Hello Kitty, Tuxedosam, Chococat and Pochacco around Seaside Resort, and her shop opens.
  2. Power Up the Gate: at friendship level 1, Chococat needs 3 Yellow Power Crystals. Craft a Crystal Sensor from 3 Sticks and 3 Magnets, which come from friendship level 2 with Badtz-maru, Tuxedosam and Pochacco. Coconuts suit the first two, and Tofu (Hello Kitty's return gift) suits Pochacco.
  3. Building Bridges: the third crystal sits on Home Island, so you collect 2 Strawberry Crates and My Melody repairs the bridge.
  4. Missing Friends, Missing Gifts: with the gate open, take Welcome Gifts to Keroppi and Kuromi in Spooky Swamp and to Pekkle and Pompompurin in Gemstone Mountain. Hangyodon in Rainbow Reef waits until you can dive.

02

Get to know the Menu Tablet

The Menu Tablet in the upper right corner holds the game's apps. The ones you'll use most:

  • Quests: active, timed and completed quests. Pin one to track it; the Quest Guide (Guiding Light) toggle for pinned quests is in the Settings app's Gameplay options.
  • Friends: who can still take gifts today, each friend's liked tags, level and companion abilities.
  • Map: fast travel plus filters, such as a red dot on anyone who can still take a gift and cooking and crafting station locations.
  • Call Resident: invite a friend to follow you as a companion once you've unlocked their ability.
  • Sunblink Mail: developer gifts to claim before they expire.

03

Why the game paces you by day

The game runs on your device's clock. Once a day, at what the wiki lists as midnight Mountain Time (07:00 GMT, or 06:00 GMT during daylight saving time), the island resets. Materials respawn, every friend's gift limit refreshes, Daily Quests and Daily Rewards advance, visitors may come and go, and time-locked quests can open up.

That reset is the real pacing tool. Most story quests need a friendship level, each friend takes only 3 gifts a day, and several quests say "wait until reset." Stalling after an hour is normal, so gather materials for tomorrow's gifts or explore. The wiki notes that reaching Pekkle, Pompompurin and Retsuko just takes determined exploring.

Don't change your device's date to skip ahead. The developers warn it can break your save, and the game turns off multiplayer if it detects date changes.

04

Making friends and gifting

Walk up to a friend and press the gift button. Only tags matter, not rarity: items have up to four tags, the hearts show how many of that friend's liked tags a gift matches, and 3-heart gifts are always worth the most. Friends reply with a return gift only they give, such as Tofu from Hello Kitty, Paper from Badtz-maru, Gizmos from Chococat, Sugarkelp from Keroppi and Flour from My Melody. More return gifts means a better present.

Usually at Good Friend you can give 3 of an item at once, and return gifts grow at Good Friend and Close Friend. Friendship Blossoms reset one friend's daily limit and Friendship Bouquets reset everyone's, and both mostly come from My Melody's Daily Rewards. For who likes what, use the gift guide.

05

Cooking and crafting basics

Your first kitchen is the Oven in Hello Kitty Cafe, Seaside Resort. It combines Flour with another ingredient, such as a Pineapple for Pineapple Stack Cake or Tofu for Tofu Bread, and takes a second extra ingredient after an upgrade at Hello Kitty friendship level 15. At most stations you can cook a dish before owning its recipe card, and the first cook can give you the card. Other regions add stations such as the Cauldron in Spooky Swamp's Witch's Hut. See the recipe guide.

Crafting happens at the Crafting Bench by Chococat's tent at the Resort Gate, usable once Power Up the Gate starts, and later at a second bench in Gemstone Town. You need Crafting Plans, from quests and chests, plus materials, and Chococat's Master Crafter ability gives a 30% chance to double the result. Welcome Home adds a Drafting Table for building homes.

06

Unlocking swimming, diving, climbing and more

You start with walking, jumping, climbing and Balloon floating; the sources list no separate glider. Falls never hurt, and water you can't swim in yet teleports you to safety. Climbing and diving use stamina, so rest on flat ledges as you climb.

AbilityHow it unlocks

Your Home, cabins and visitors after Welcome Home

This is where Welcome Home changed the most. The old Cozy Islands are now Home Island, and My Melody helps you make a Home before she gives you a Cabin, which used to be your only claimed space.

  • Cornerstones: after Power Up the Gate, A Zipline Adventure, Finding Flippers and Delivery Service, My Melody leads you to a Foundation on Home Island and gives you a Cornerstone. Gift Chococat a Blank Book, Hello Kitty a Strawberry and Badtz-maru a Coconut for more, then repair the Foundation with 4 Cornerstones.
  • Crafty Drafting: give Chococat 5 Sand Dollars, 3 Sugarkelp, 1 Paper and 1 Spark for the Drafting Table. Then gather 1 Strawberry Crate, 5 Sand Dollars, 2 Gizmos, 1 Coconut, 1 Rubber and 1 Pineapple to craft your Island Home-in-a-Box.
  • Welcome Home: this quest unlocks your Player Home on Home Island and rewards Antique furniture: a standing mirror, side table, chair and bed.

Your Home can't be moved, and it levels up as you build Character Homes for friends, starting with 3 for level 2. Homes are for you and your island friends; Cabins are for you, multiplayer friends and visitors. The wiki flags the old "Make Yourself At Home" cabin quest as changed and possibly gone. Sunblink says the new Mailboxes bring gifts from friends and Cornerstones. See the homes guide.

Visitors start with "Friends and Family," after Building Bridges and the Welcome Home quest: repair a Visitor Cabin with 3 Strawberry Crates and decorate it for Dear Daniel. Up to 3 visitors a day can give you a request, and at 5 stars a visitor can stay for good. The visitor guide lists cabin needs.

Tips for beginners

These Hello Kitty Island Adventure tips for beginners come from the wiki and official pages:

  1. Gift everyone daily. Three gifts per friend is the fastest route to new quests.
  2. Do your Daily Quests. They raise friendship and refresh every reset.
  3. Pick up everything. There's no inventory cap, and early quests ask for Sticks, Sand Dollars, Coconuts and Pineapples.
  4. Guard your Strawberry Crates. They never respawn. Building Bridges takes 2, Crafty Drafting 1 and Friends and Family 3, and some weekly quests award more.
  5. Bring a companion. The wiki suggests Hello Kitty for a gifting boost and My Melody for a bonus return gift, and Chococat helps when crafting.
  6. Log in daily. New players get a Welcome Rewards calendar after their first reset, then regular Daily Rewards.
  7. Try before you buy. The official site lists a free Hello Kitty Island Intro on the App Store whose progress carries into the full Apple Arcade game. This month's Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial ran October 9 to 15, and Nintendo says trial saves carry over if you buy.

To keep going with this Hello Kitty Island Adventure guide, the quest guide covers later unlocks and the multiplayer guide explains inviting a friend.
