HKIA potion recipes all start with one Glow Berry in the Cauldron inside Kuromi's Witch's Hut in Spooky Swamp. Add an Apple for a Stamina Recharge Potion, Tofu for Speedy Walking, Swampmallow for Speedy Swimming, Sugarkelp for Deep Diving or Magma Bloom for a Thermal Potion. Once Kuromi upgrades the Cauldron, Glow Powder opens the Critter, Item, Sparkle, Moon Gravity and Kuromi Kool Potions, and Stained Glass makes longer-lasting magical versions. The Cauldron itself unlocks at Kuromi friendship level 8.
This guide reflects the Welcome Home update (version 3.0, released October 8, 2026) and the official wiki as we read it on October 16, 2026. New content usually reaches Apple Arcade first, and the magical potions need the Wheatflour Wonderland DLC or Apple Arcade, so what you see can differ by platform and version.

Every potion recipe and its effect
Every Hello Kitty Island Adventure potion uses exactly one Glow Berry plus the ingredients below. Durations are the wiki's base figures, before any companion boost.
| Potion | Cauldron ingredients | Effect | Lasts | Recipe comes from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stamina Recharge Potion | Glow Berry + Apple | Stamina drains more slowly | 5 minutes | "Potion Hunt: The Opening" |
| Speedy Walking Potion | Glow Berry + Tofu | Faster walking on land | 1 minute | "Potion Hunt 2: The Need for Speed" |
| Speedy Swimming Potion | Glow Berry + Swampmallow | Faster swimming on the water's surface | 1 minute | "Potion Hunt 3: Just Keep Swimming" |
| Deep Diving Potion | Glow Berry + Sugarkelp | Faster swimming underwater | 1 minute | "Potion Hunt 4: Diving In" |
| Thermal Potion | Glow Berry + Magma Bloom | Balloons lift you higher | 1 minute | "Potion Hunt 5: Flying High" |
| Critter Potion | Glow Berry + Glow Powder + Sugarkelp | Turns you into a random critter | 2 minutes | "Potion Pros" |
| Item Potion | Glow Berry + Glow Powder + Rubber | Turns you into a random item | 2 minutes | "Potion Pros" |
| Sparkle Potion | Glow Berry + Glow Powder + Sparkle | You sparkle and leave a trail as you move | 2 minutes | "Potion Pros" |
| Moon Gravity Potion | Glow Berry + Glow Powder + Moon Cheese | Low gravity, so you jump higher | 1 minute | No quest listed on the wiki |
| Kuromi Kool Potion | Glow Berry + Glow Powder + Kuromi's Decorating Kit | Turns you into Kuromi | 2 minutes | Event recipe, Kuromi's Birthday Celebration |
| Mundane Potion | Glow Berry + anything that matches no recipe | None, and you can't drink it | None | Default result |
The five Glow Powder potions need the upgraded Cauldron, because they use two ingredients besides the Glow Berry. Note that the Sparkle Potion uses Sparkle, the material you pick up around the island, not the crafted Spark.
Magical potions
| Magical potion | Cauldron ingredients | Lasts | Recipe comes from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magical Deep Diving Potion | Glow Berry + Sugarkelp + Stained Glass | 2 minutes | "Potion Solutions" |
| Magical Speedy Swimming Potion | Glow Berry + Swampmallow + Stained Glass | 2 minutes | "Potion Solutions" |
| Magical Thermal Potion | Glow Berry + Magma Bloom + Stained Glass | 2 minutes | "Potion Solutions" |
| Magical Stamina Recharge Potion | Glow Berry + Apple + Stained Glass | 10 minutes | No quest named on the wiki |
| Magical Speedy Walking Potion | Glow Berry + Tofu + Stained Glass | 2 minutes | No quest named on the wiki |
Each magical potion has the same effect as its standard version and lasts twice as long. They are Wheatflour Wonderland content, so you need that DLC or Apple Arcade, plus the upgraded Cauldron.

How to unlock the Cauldron
The Witch's Hut sits just northwest of the Spooky Swamp fast-travel point, and Kuromi is usually inside. You open the Cauldron through her "Potion Hunt" series, which starts at friendship level 8 once you've finished her "Deep Diving" quest. There are five parts, and each new part only starts after the next daily reset, so the series spans at least five days.
- The Opening: My Melody gives you the first Potion Recipe Card. Kuromi then teaches the Stamina Recharge Potion with 1 Apple and 1 Glow Berry.
- The Need for Speed: Pochacco has the second card. You brew two Speedy Walking Potions, give one to Pochacco and drink the other.
- Just Keep Swimming: Keroppi gave the third card to his critters, so look on a tree stump near the back of the Nature Preserve's Bog room. Then you brew a Speedy Swimming Potion.
- Diving In: Hangyodon wants you to hand out 3 Comedy Club Tickets to island residents before he gives you the fourth card. You learn the Deep Diving Potion.
- Flying High: Kuromi teaches the Thermal Potion and the series wraps up.
The wiki's item list for the series shows 5 Glow Berries and one each of Apple, Tofu, Swampmallow, Sugarkelp and Magma Bloom. Part two has you brew two Speedy Walking Potions, though, so by the wiki's own steps the series uses 6 Glow Berries and 2 Tofu. The rest of Kuromi's quest line is on the Kuromi guide.
To drink a potion, open your inventory, go to the Toolbox tab, select the potion and choose Consume. You can't drink one while a companion ability already gives the same effect. Pochacco's Speed Walker blocks the Speedy Walking Potion, Hangyodon's Speed Swimmer blocks the Speedy Swimming and Deep Diving Potions, Retsuko's Adrenaline blocks Stamina Recharge, and Kuromi's Super Balloon blocks the Thermal Potion.

Upgrading the Cauldron: Potion Pros or Potion Solutions
The basic Cauldron takes a Glow Berry and one more ingredient. The upgrade adds room for a second extra ingredient, and you can get it from either of two quests.
Potion Pros is Kuromi's Best Friends quest at friendship level 20. You also need the Potion Hunt series and "Open the Nature Preserve" done. Kuromi asks for 5 Pumpkins, a Glowbuddy (Grassy or Orchid both count) and a Bog Clamfish of any size. She then gives you the Glow Powder plans, and you craft 10 Glow Powder plus a Jack-O-Lantern at the Crafting Bench in Seaside Resort. Back at the hut she teaches the Critter, Item and Sparkle Potions one at a time, and you brew and drink each. Each Glow Powder costs 3 Light Stones, which you get by gifting Kuromi.
Potion Solutions is the other route, if you own Wheatflour Wonderland. It opens after the "Critter Queen" quest, which unlocks at Cogimyun friendship level 16. Cogimyun gives you 9 Shimmersand, Kuromi hands over the Stained Glass plans (3 Shimmersand each), and you craft 3 Stained Glass at the Craft Forge in Crafting Court. Kuromi then upgrades the Cauldron and teaches the Magical Speedy Swimming, Deep Diving and Thermal recipes. The DLC itself is covered in the DLC guide.
Either quest upgrades the Cauldron. The wiki lists Potion Pros as the only source of Glow Powder plans, though, so brewing any Glow Powder potion yourself needs Kuromi at Best Friends.

The 2026 Month of Mischief potions
The 2026 Spooky Celebration, also called the Month of Mischief, runs from September 24 to October 31, 2026. The official event announcement promised strange new potions, and the wiki counts five: Critter, Item, Sparkle, Moon Gravity and Kuromi Kool. During the event, picking up almost any item, including materials, comics and music discs, can randomly give you one of these.
The wiki says they won't disappear when the event ends, because they stay available through Potion Pros, which opened with the event but isn't limited to it. Potion Pros only teaches three recipes, though, and Kuromi closes it by saying there are more to discover. The wiki lists no quest for the Moon Gravity recipe, only its ingredients: Glow Berry, Glow Powder and Moon Cheese in the upgraded Cauldron.
The Kuromi Kool Potion needs Kuromi's Decorating Kit, which normally drops only during Kuromi's Birthday Celebration in late October. In 2026 you can collect kits all month. Each time you pick up a Pumpkin, Glow Berry, Swampmallow or Spinip in Spooky Swamp, there's a chance of getting one. The wiki's birthday page says you get the recipe by brewing Glow Berry, Glow Powder and a kit together.
During the event, Kuromi's daily "Kuromi Quest" asks you to give a Kuromi Kool Potion to a named friend, which unlocks that friend's "Kuromi Kool" outfit. You get up to two a day, and only for friends whose outfit you haven't unlocked yet. Being transformed by a potion also counts as a costume for night-time trick-or-treating.

Where to get Glow Berries and other ingredients
Glow Berries grow around the southern half of Spooky Swamp, mostly in Lilypad Lagoon. You can find 7 a day, and the wiki lists a three-day maximum of 21. This October they can also drop Kuromi's Decorating Kits. Glow Berries go into some dishes too, which the recipes guide covers.
| Ingredient | Where to get it | Amount on the wiki |
|---|---|---|
| Glow Berry | Southern Spooky Swamp, mostly Lilypad Lagoon | 7 per day |
| Apple | Trees in Spooky Swamp; Bogging for Apples mini-game | 7 per day; 5 per game |
| Swampmallow | Water's edge in Spooky Swamp | 15 per day |
| Sugarkelp | Keroppi gives it when you gift him; Keroppi Box at Best Friends | Not listed |
| Tofu | Hello Kitty gives it when you gift her; Hello Kitty Box at Best Friends | Not listed |
| Magma Bloom | Mount Hothead; Red Hot Rampage mini-game | 7 per day; up to 14 per game |
| Rubber | Seaside Resort | 7 per day |
| Sparkle | Around Friendship Island; Challenge Course runs | Regenerates; 1 to 3 per run |
| Moon Cheese | Cloud Island; The Moon after "This Tall to Ride" | 11 per day; 5 more per day |
| Light Stone, for Glow Powder | Kuromi gives it when you gift her; Kuromi Box at Best Friends | Not listed |
| Shimmersand, for Stained Glass | Periwinkle Park in Wheatflour Wonderland | 9 per day |

Craft your own Cauldron or Mini Cauldron
At friendship level 15, when you become Close Friends, Kuromi unlocks the Cauldron crafting plans. A crafted Cauldron costs 10 Ingots, 100 Glow Berries and 5 Sparks, and it works once you place it in a Visitor Cabin. At 7 berries a day from the swamp, 100 berries is roughly two weeks of picking, so start saving early.
The Mini Cauldron is a smaller version that works exactly the same and costs the same materials. Its plans come from "Speedy Sorcery", which needs Kuromi at level 15 and both "Mini Mode" and the Potion Hunt series finished. You brew 3 Speedy Walking Potions for Kuromi, My Sweet Piano and yourself, then give Kuromi 5 Glow Berries and 5 Tofu.
Ingots are crafted from 3 Iron, with plans on a barrel outside the Dance Hall in Gemstone Mountain. Sparks take 3 Light Stones, with plans from "A Zipline Adventure". Sunblink's Content Update 4 notes for Steam also say Wheatflour Wonderland potions can be made in cabin cauldrons.

Tips for companions, quests and gifts
- Bring Kuromi along. While she's your companion, her Witchcraft ability makes potion effects last 50% longer from friendship level 13 and 100% longer from level 18. Her Super Balloon still blocks the Thermal Potion.
- Brew with Hello Kitty. Her Sous Chef ability works at the Cauldron and can give you an extra item.
- Use potions on Challenge Courses. The wiki says gold times usually need companion abilities or potions. It also warns that Thermal Potions can cause problems with the thermal air vents on Cloud Island and in City Town.
- Keep spares for quests. Kuromi's "Potions Class" daily quests each ask you to brew one standard potion. The weekly "Potion Hut Special" has you deliver a Stamina Recharge Potion to Pekkle, a Deep Diving Potion to Badtz-maru and a Thermal Potion to Retsuko. Requests from Nina, Baku, Chico, Carl, Hello Kitty's Grandma and Pompompurin's Mama also need potions. See the visitors guide.
- Gift magical potions to Cogimyun. All five are 2-heart gifts for her. More favorites are in the gift guide.
- Fish with them. The Speedy Swimming Potion is the preferred bait for the Quagfish.
