Hello Kitty Island Adventure furniture tags are the small icons on each item that sort it into categories such as Chair, Rug, Spooky or Yummy. An item can carry up to four tags, and those tags decide which gifts residents enjoy, which visitors will move into a cabin, and which items a Character Home plan accepts, so learning them saves a lot of guesswork.
This guide reflects the Welcome Home update (version 3.0), released on all platforms on October 8, 2026, using the official Hello Kitty Island Adventure Wiki and Sunblink's patch notes. Tag names are unofficial: wiki editors base them on in-game asset names, dialogue and the official Discord's custom emoji names, so always match the icon you see in game. Some tags only exist if you own a DLC region (see the DLC guide).
01
What tags are and where you see them
Hello Kitty Island Adventure item tags aren't limited to furniture: food, flowers, fish, critters and clothes carry them too, and each shows as an icon on the item. In your Inventory, the Furniture tab can be filtered by Type or by Tag. The Type filters are Box, Table, Lamp, Chair, Wallpaper, Flooring, Pillow, Bookcase, Mirror, Decorative, Plant, Appliance, Habitat and Rug. For furniture, most Tag filters are events or furniture collections.
Inside a cabin, the add-furniture menu can be filtered by Tags or by Visitor, which shows only items that count toward a chosen visitor. Each visitor's liked tag appears in the Visitors app on your Menu Tablet. Since Welcome Home, saved Layouts and Kits also have a Tags button that lists the tags in that design.

How tags matter for gifts, cabins and homes
Gifts for residents
Each Island Resident has three liked tags that decide which gifts they accept. Chococat, for example, likes Chocolate, Device and Book. The wiki also tracks a hidden "gift value" per tag that reflects its rarity and sets how many return gifts and how much friendship XP a gift earns. Matching more liked tags (more hearts) adds a bonus on top, though the wiki's Tags and Gifting pages describe the size of that bonus differently. Once you reach Best Friend, the return gift becomes a Character Gift Box. The gift guide lists what each friend likes.
Gift values differ a lot between tags. The wiki lists a value of 2 for tags such as Book, Rare, Spooky and Dessert, but 0 for Fish and Sweet. Its pages don't always agree: the tag list gives Chocolate and Flower 0, while the Character Gift Guide gives them 1. None of these values are shown in the game, so use them only as a rough guide.
Visitor cabins
Visitors have a single liked tag, separate from their cabin requirements. Each liked-tag item in a satisfactory cabin adds a heart, up to five, which raises the chance they visit. Most requirements also count tagged items: George White needs one Book item, Noberun and Keroppi's Papa three each and Yoga Instructor two, while Gori and Washimi each need five Rare items. Collections count too, since Azuki wants all 13 pieces of Yummy furniture. See the visitors guide for full requirement tables.
Event furniture often does double duty. The wiki notes that Spooky Celebration furniture always carries the Spooky tag, which is Baku's liked tag, so the five Spooky Celebration pieces he requires also fill all five of his hearts. Berry and Cherry each need five Spooky items, and clothing can count toward that number.
Character Homes
Welcome Home added Character Homes, crafted at the Drafting Table from Construction Plans. Their plans call for tagged items: Chococat's Island Home needs three Device, three Book, three Chocolate and three Bookcase items, plus a Chococat Cooler, Chococat Dining Chair, Chococat Rug and Decorative Chococat Conch, and it can only be crafted once. Once you're Best Friends with a resident you can redecorate their home's interior, and friends hand you a Layout of their home during their Island Home quests, which helps if you want to rebuild the original look. The Homes guide covers foundations and Cornerstones.

How to get furniture
Hello Kitty Island Adventure furniture comes from several places, according to the wiki:
- Shops. My Melody sells furniture at Small Gift Big Smile, and the Dessert Boat sells double beds from several collections.
- Chests. Treasure Chests and Radiant Chests contain furniture.
- Friendship and quests. Friends give furniture as friendship rewards, and many quests reward it.
- Events. Limited events sell furniture or award it for tasks.
- Crafting. The Crafting Table turns Crafting Plans into furniture, and the Drafting Table turns Construction Plans into homes, furniture and more.
Many collections can be customized with the Furniture Customizer. In multiplayer, you can't gift or trade furniture until you and the other player finish your multiplayer friendship level 1 tasks together.
05
Furniture collections worth knowing
Furniture collections are sets that share a tag, which makes them easy to filter. These six matter most for visitor cabins, with item counts where the wiki states one.
| Collection | Items | How to get it | Who needs or likes it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hello Kitty | 16 | Puzzle Rooms, Treasure and Radiant Chests, the Red Hot Ruins and Hello Kitty friendship gifts; pieces you already own appear at Small Gift Big Smile; the double bed is at the Dessert Boat | Mimmy needs 5, Mary White needs 3 |
| Nordic | 16 | Mostly by winning Seapony Racing, Gem Match and Red Hot Rampage; Nordic Wallpaper and Flooring at Small Gift Big Smile; the double bed at the Dessert Boat | Nina's liked tag |
| Yummy | 16 | Crafted, with plans from the Red Hot Ruins and from watering Gift Flowers; the Yummy Double Bed is sold at the Dessert Boat | Azuki needs 13 |
| Cottage | 17 | Crafted, with plans from My Sweet Piano's friendship gifts | My Melody's Mama and Grandma need 3 each |
| Home Essentials | 10 | Small Gift Big Smile; kitchen pieces are possible Crane Craze prizes in Easy Mode | Pompompurin's Mama 5, Marin 5, Kabae 4, Keroppi's Mama 3 |
| Spooky Celebration | Not stated | The Spooky Celebration Event Stand in the Resort Plaza, including earlier years' items, and Friendship Bead trades with Keroppi | Baku needs 5, Nina needs 1 |
Home Essentials was called the Kitchen collection until version 2.1, when non-kitchen pieces were added.

Rugs and flooring after the Welcome Home changes
Before version 2.18, some Flooring items had a rug built in that you couldn't remove. Separating rugs from flooring was presented as a Welcome Home feature, but the wiki's Welcome Home page says it shipped early: in version 2.18 on Apple Arcade and in the all-platforms 2.18.1 update (Content Update 8). Some item pages date it to 3.0 on other platforms instead, so the exact patch is unclear. Those built-in rugs became separate Rug items. The Spooky Celebration Rug, for example, first appeared in the 2023 Spooky Celebration as the Spooky Celebration Flooring, and the Sunshine Citrus Rug and Large Sunshine Citrus Rug were once part of the Sunshine Celebration Flooring.
Today the Flooring tag covers items that change a room's floor, while the Rug tag covers rugs. Gyoniku, Kanikama and Otamaro each need one Rug item in their cabin. Sunblink's Welcome Home notes on Steam also list Floors and Walls Customization for select floors and walls, plus a fix that gives the Dreamy Rug its correct Dreamy tag. The updates guide tracks later changes.
07
Book, Rare and other tags players look up
Book items are all craftable, per the wiki, and the tag is liked by Chococat, Big Challenges, Espresso and Itaro. One exception: The Future of Everything is a craftable book that doesn't have the Book tag.
Rare covers many Uncommon and Rare critters and fish on Friendship Island, except those from Cloud Island or Merry Meadow, plus certain Legendary clothes. Wish me mell, Gori, Washimi, Director Ton and President Elephant like it.
We couldn't find a Flamingo tag anywhere in the wiki's documented tags, so if a search points you to one, check the item's icons in game before you build around it. The same goes for any tag not in the table above.
