This Hello Kitty Island Adventure characters list covers all 22 island residents you can befriend. Thirteen are on the island from the start, though a few sit behind a gate or underwater, and nine join later through quests, including Usahana and Cogimyun from paid expansions. The table shows how each friend joins, where you find them, their birthday and their max friendship level. Marroncream, the newcomer from Welcome Home, and the visitors are covered further down.
This list reflects the official Hello Kitty Island Adventure Wiki as checked on October 16, 2026, after the free Welcome Home update (version 3.0), which the wiki says released on all platforms on October 8, 2026. Apple Arcade often gets new content first, and the two expansions that add friends are paid DLC on Switch, Steam and PlayStation but included with Apple Arcade. So what you see can differ by platform and version, and some Welcome Home wiki pages are still being filled in.

02
Friends you can meet from the start
The wiki says these 13 friends appear during the opening sequence and can be befriended from the start, if you can reach them. Badtz-maru, Chococat, Hello Kitty, My Melody, Pochacco and Tuxedosam are all in Seaside Resort. Reach friendship level 1 with Chococat to start "Power Up the Gate", which opens the Resort Gate so you can explore the rest of the island.
Once the gate is open, follow the path north and climb up to Lilypad Lagoon in Spooky Swamp to find Keroppi. Kuromi is further north. Pekkle, Pompompurin and Retsuko can be reached after "Power Up the Gate". The wiki notes some slopes can be climbed without extra stamina.
Two friends need a little more. You meet Cinnamoroll during "Delivery Service", Kuromi's level 1 quest, which also unlocks the Fast Travel mailboxes. Hangyodon lives in Rainbow Reef, so you need the Snorkel. It comes from Kuromi's "Deep Diving" quest, which unlocks at friendship level 6 with her after "Finding Flippers" and "Re-Haunt the Spooky Swamp".
03
Residents you unlock through quests
Wish me mell joins in "A Long Awaited Introduction", which Cinnamoroll gives you on the reset after "Curiouser and Curiouser". The wiki adds that the lead-up starts when you pick up a Lost Doll, in an area first reached through a quest the day after My Melody's level 11 quest. She lives in Merry Meadow and introduces you to flowers.
My Sweet Piano arrives through "A Friend Indeed", a series of three quests that unlocks at friendship level 15 with My Melody. You wait for a reset between parts.
Big Challenges and TOPHAT both become friends after "A Challenging Rescue", which TOPHAT gives you. It needs at least 3 Stamina Apples and nine earlier story quests, including "Power Up the Gate", "Reef Revival" and "Fire Up the Volcano". After the rescue on Icy Peak, the pair usually hang out on the Seaside Resort beaches.
Kiki and Lala, the Little Twin Stars, join through "Stargazing" from Hello Kitty. It unlocks after "A Challenging Rescue" and "Baker's Assistant", which needs friendship level 17 with Hello Kitty. You start it at night, and it also opens Cloud Island.
Moppu comes at the end of a long chain. "Snow Day" from Badtz-maru unlocks one reset after "Mind the Gap". The wiki's step-by-step Icy Peak guide includes "Purple Rain", having met Wish me mell and My Sweet Piano, owning at least 5 Spirit Hearts, and "Mountain Hopes", which unlocks Blizzard Peak and the Arctifier. The Purple Rain guide covers that step.
04
DLC residents: Usahana and Cogimyun
Usahana needs the City Town expansion, out on PC, Switch and PlayStation since April 16, 2026, and included with Apple Arcade. You meet her in "Into the Fog". That follows "Ship Shape", which needs friendship level 7 with Badtz-maru, Keroppi, Kuromi, Chococat and Cinnamoroll, plus "Deep Diving", "Keep It Reel" and Pochacco's level 4 quest "A Zipline Adventure". She helps run the Imagination Cafe in City Town. The wiki notes her higher levels were added gradually; version 2.0 stopped at level 10.
Cogimyun needs Wheatflour Wonderland, released September 18, 2025, on Apple Arcade, PC and Switch, and October 2, 2025, on PlayStation. Kuromi's "Potion Problems" opens the portal and introduces her once you have finished the "Potion Hunt" series and "Open the Nature Preserve". She lives in Wheatflour Wonderland. Both expansion friends' birthday celebrations require their DLC. The DLC guide has the details on each expansion.
05
Marroncream and other special characters
Marroncream arrived with Welcome Home 3.0. You meet her when you finish "Welcome Home", the My Melody quest where you hand in your Island Home-in-a-Box and unlock your Player Home. She then keeps turning up as you finish Character Homes, and gives you Pocket Room Doorknobs and Spun Lace for completed homes.
The wiki isn't consistent about her status. Its Welcome Home page calls her a new friend, but her own page classes her as a special character for now and says it is unknown whether she will become one of your friends later. She lives somewhere on Friendship Island, but her exact whereabouts are unknown. Her infobox lists a May 31 birthday, but the Birthdays page has no celebration for her.
Other special characters are neither residents nor visitors. They include Gudetama, the Nuls, the Island Spirit and Nisetama-san, plus Grand Flowls, Cogimyon and Ebi Fry in Wheatflour Wonderland and Kirimi-chan in City Town.

During a celebration you can do one-time birthday quests for a Party Favor and Birthday Balloons crafting plans. You can also collect Decorating Kits and bake a Birthday Cake at the Oven. Each friend has special dialogue the first time you give them their cake. Hello Kitty's celebration also spawns Bowblossom flowers.
Windows can move between years. Hello Kitty's celebration ran October 26 to November 9 in 2024 and October 30 to November 12 in 2025, and the wiki has no 2026 dates for it yet. In 2026, the Spooky Celebration's Month of Mischief lets you collect Kuromi's Decorating Kits all through October, but her birthday quest, "Queen of Halloween", isn't available the whole month. The Kuromi guide has more on her birthday.
07
Friendship levels and max levels
Open the Friends menu on your Menu Tablet to see each friend's level, return gift, how many gifts you have given and what the next levels unlock. You earn Friendship XP in only two ways: giving gifts and finishing that friend's quests, mostly Daily Quests and Friendship Quests. You can normally give each resident three gifts a day.
Friendship goes from New Friend to Good Friend, Close Friend and Best Friend. Max levels vary: TOPHAT stops at 10, while Usahana and Cogimyun go to 35. The wiki says later-game characters are harder to level. Hello Kitty's "Everyone's Friend" ability at level 12 boosts the Friendship XP from gifts while she is your companion.
08
Island visitors in brief
Visitors aren't residents. They stay in Visitor Cabins that meet their requirements, and many are friends of residents. You unlock them by starting the "Friends and Family" quest. Each completed Request raises a visitor's Star Rating by one, and at 5 stars you can ask them to move in for good.
The Birthdays page lists 20 visitors with confirmed in-game birthdays. On that day they are guaranteed to visit if a suitable cabin is empty and they were not already visiting the day before. The Welcome Home Steam announcement also says new visitors are on their way, including "a couple of family members." Cabin requirements and schedules are in the visitors guide.
09
Where friends live after Welcome Home
Welcome Home added Character Homes, which you build on Foundations around the island using Cornerstones. Not every friend can have one yet. In 3.0, homes are listed for Hello Kitty, My Melody, Tuxedosam, Badtz-maru, Chococat, Pochacco, Keroppi, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, Hangyodon, Pompompurin and Pekkle. Cogimyun's home is also listed, and Usahana's plans come from the City Town quest "A Rainbow Roof".
The wiki says more homes are planned for version 3.1 on Apple Arcade or the next Content Update on other platforms. Visitors can't get Character Homes. Once a friend is a Close Friend or Best Friend, you can add a Mailbox to their home. Plots, costs and quest order are in the homes guide.
